The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an 18-player squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England.
However, the final 15-man squad for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be decided after the first T20I match against England on May 22nd in Leeds.
This is to meet the ICC’s deadline of May 25th for submitting the Final World Cup squads.
The national selectors have brought back fast bowler Haris Rauf, all-rounders Hasan Ali and Salman Ali Agha into the 18-player squad.
Wrist spinner Usama Mir and fast bowler Zaman Khan have missed out from the initial 17-player squad that played against New Zealand at Home in April 2024.
Pakistan’s 18-Player Squad:
Babar Azam (Captain), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan
Haris Rauf, Azam Khan, Muhammad Irfan Khan, and Mohammad Rizwan had missed recent games due to injuries or niggles but have shown good recovery in fitness assessments at the National Cricket Academy.
The medical panel is confident about their availability for the upcoming matches.
Salman Ali Agha’s selection provides versatility as an aggressive middle-order batter and off-spin bowling option.
Hasan Ali’s vast experience of 50 T20Is and strong performance in the Pakistan Super League 2024 have earned him a recall.
The national selectors said finalizing this squad was challenging due to the wealth of talent available.
They aim to have a strong top-order, effective middle-order, versatile all-rounders, a potent pace attack and quality spin options.
The team will have a training camp in Lahore from May 4-6 before departing for Dublin on May 7.
They play three T20Is against Ireland from May 10-14, followed by four matches against England from May 22-30.
